What does ONT/ONU actually mean?
An Optical Network Terminal (ONT) or an Optical Network Unit (ONU) delivers the services ordered by the customer from the network operator. The ONT range is based on installation criteria and the service to be implemented.
The FTTX network topologies for which ONTs can be used are Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH), Fibre-to-the-Room (FTTR), Fibre-to-the-Building (FTTB), Fibre-to-the-Business (FTTb), Fibre-to-the-Curb (FTTC) etc.
All multiple-play signals provided by the optical headend are available at the connections, such as High Speed Internet (HSI), VoIP, WLAN, IPTV u. / o. RF Overlay etc.
