Fibre optic patch cables from VARIA make it possible to connect different network components with each other and ensure loss-free data transmission. Different quality classes (OMx/OSx) facilitate the qualitative and functional differentiation of a fibre optic patch cable.

High quality standards, 100% testing and individual measurement protocol
The use of high-quality materials and modern production facilities as well as continuous quality controls during the production process ensure loss-free signal transmission and consistently high quality. Each individual patch cable undergoes a test after assembly. After successful measurement, each patch cable is supplied with an individual measurement/test report.

Added value of OM5 technology
OM5 technology offers a number of improvements compared to previous quality classes. Previous multimode fibres are optimised for an optical window or a wavelength range of 850 nm. Outside this window, the signals are heavily attenuated, meaning that Ethernet signals have to be transmitted via several multimode fibres connected in parallel. For example, two fibres are required for 10 Gigabit Ethernet (one fibre for transmitting, one for receiving). For 40 or 100 Gigabit Ethernet applications, the signals are split over eight fibres (2x four fibres with 10 or 25 Gigabit/s) or 20 fibres (2x ten fibres with 10 Gigabit/s).
OM5 technology therefore uses a wideband optimised multimode fibre (Wideband Multimode Fibre ? WBMMF). In conjunction with SWDM technology (Short Wave Division Multiplexing), a wider optical window can be utilised. This means that four different wavelengths from 850 nm to 950 nm can be used. Each individual wavelength can operate at data rates of 25 Gbit/s. This reduces the number of fibres by a factor of four compared to OM4. Instead of more complex multi-fibre connectors such as the MPO connector, simpler and more cost-effective fibre optic duplex connectors can be used.

Compatibility
The OM5 fibre optic patch cables from VARIA are fully backwards compatible with previous versions (OM2, OM3 and OM4). This means they can be easily integrated into existing installations.
