Economies of scale drive cloud storage
Next-generation cloud data centres are now using NVMe SSD storage as a core component, replacing the slower SATA interface of predecessors.

Economies of Scale Propel Cloud Storage
Next-generation cloud data centres are now using NVMe SSD storage as a core component, replacing the slower SATA interface of the previous generation. The Ultrastar DC SN630 NVMe SSD is based on Western Digital’s proprietary controller and firmware technology and utilises our own 64-layer BiCS3 3D NAND, which allows Western Digital to tightly control all design aspects and deliver consistently low latency and high performance. This essential NVMe offering provides double the maximum capacity per slot and more capacity options than our previous generation, up to 7.68TB1.

Cloud services are revolutionising the way businesses think about data storage, moving from fixed cost IT infrastructures to variable cost models. As more and more business services move to the cloud to take advantage of the pay-as-you-go model, the demands on cloud service providers to scale are increasing exponentially. Finding ways to maximise and rationalise storage by running workloads concurrently on the storage infrastructure has become essential. In addition, cloud storage services must provide high availability and consistent I/O performance to ensure they are available 24/7, 365 days a year. Ultrastar® DC SN630 NVMe™ SSDs help customers meet these stringent requirements at an affordable price per GB.

Ultrastar DC SN630 SSDs increase productivity and reduce total cost of ownership
SATA SSDs have long been used in data centres and cloud storage. However, with growing capacity requirements and the need to access data with minimal latency, the adequacy of interface bandwidth between the host and the drive is increasingly being questioned. The SATA (6Gb/s) interface limits the performance of most SSDs and results in latency compared to NVMe SSDs. Leveraging higher capacity points with fast, low latency NVMe allows data centre architects to reduce the number of servers deployed while still serving more users and providing more services per server.Server reduction in turn reduces the number of software licensing fees required per core, resulting in even lower TCO.

Highly reliable storage innovation
Utilising the industry standard NVMe command protocol, which reduces latency and improves bandwidth, Ultrastar DC SN630 SSDs enable a cost-effective transition to next-generation storage platforms.

Available in a 2.5-inch U.2 form factor with a slim 7mm profile, typical power consumption below 10.75W and hot-swappable capability, Ultrastar DC SN630 NVMe SSDs simplify large-scale data centre deployment. This results in efficient workload utilisation, a lower thermal profile compared to 25W PCIe SSDs and improved TCO.

Ultrastar DC SN630 SSDs protect your data with data protection, proprietary wear-leveling algorithms and power-failure protection required in a demanding enterprise environment. The Ultrastar DC SN630 SSDs benefit from Western Digital’s long history of delivering best-in-class enterprise storage solutions, superior manufacturing quality and commitment to reliability. They enable data centre customers to innovate with minimal risk.
