Product Description
Raspberry Pi Compute Module (CM3)

The Raspberry Pi Compute Module is the perfect solution to integrate the functionality of Raspberry Pi into your industrial design. The Compute Module CM3 is an evolution of the previous CM1, with an upgraded processor and improved speed.
The CM3 is a prototype development and is aimed at business and industrial users.

CM3 vs. CM1
The CM3 is the newer version with numerous improvements in functionality. As already mentioned, there has been an upgrade to the on-board processor. The CM1 CPU runs at 700 MHz, while the CM3 runs at an impressive 1.2 GHz. Memory capacity has also increased from 512 MB on the CM1 compared to 1 GB on the CM3.
The CM3 is most comparable to the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B (896-8660) in terms of core functionality.

CM3 vs. CM3 Lite
The main difference is that the CM3 comes with eMMC Flash and SD/eMMC, while the CM3 Lite board does not. However, CM3 Lite (123-2012) is equipped with the appropriate pins for connecting its own SD/eMMC device.

What is the Compute Module?
The Compute Module (CM3) is similar to the traditional Raspberry Pi boards as it contains the same core. It features the Broadcom BCM2837 SoC, which is also available for Raspberry Pi 3 Model B and Raspberry Pi 2 Model B+ V1.2. The CM3 also has a 4 GB eMMC Flash, which is comparable to the SD card of other Raspberry Pi boards.
The idea behind the Compute Module is that it is smaller and can be integrated into designs. This SODIMM module is much more flexible and can be integrated into systems and other products.

How is it connected?
The Compute Module CM3 allows you to customise the connectors to your own technical requirements. The compact board measures only 67.6 x 31 mm (compared to 85 x 56 mm for standard boards), and it fits on a standard DDR2 SODIMM connector. The compute module offers compatibility with many GPIOs and interfaces via a 200-pin connector strip.
The CM1 is suitable for people who want to create their own printed circuit board (PCB). However, the CM1 I/O board (136-3741) is also an ideal adapter to set up your CM1 module.

Is the CM3 suitable for me?
If you are looking for something with a small form factor that you can customise to your design, then the CM3 is an ideal tool. A kit (127-0226) with CM3, I/O board and power supply is also available.
The Compute Modules are for more advanced users and require more input to create your project. If you are looking for something simpler, it is best to look at one of the conventional Raspberry Pi boards, for example the Raspberry Pi 3 B+ (137-3331).
