The Ultrastar DC HC300 series delivers cost-effective low to medium capacity hard drives that provide fast and reliable data access for traditional data centre applications.

IT managers need to create storage tiers as part of specialised solutions for on-premises, off-premises and cloud storage. Helium-filled hard drives offer the highest storage capacities, while air-filled storage media offer other equally significant benefits. With lower acquisition costs, the ability to utilise designs that have been on the market for longer and higher access density, they are the ideal choice to achieve the desired level of performance while staying within budget. The Ultrastar® DC HC300 series meets today's data centre requirements with storage capacities between 4 and 10 TB1 and higher performance than previous generations. The hard drives in the product range are suitable for various applications, such as conventional storage arrays, rack-mounted storage enclosures, server-based distributed storage systems, distributed and scalable computing infrastructures as well as block and file storage architectures. They are offered with 7,200 rpm and SATA (6 Gbit/s) or SAS interface (12 Gbit/s) as well as Advanced Format 4Kn and 512e4. A 512n version of the 4TB models is also available to support older systems with a native block size of 512 bytes.

Technological innovation increases efficiency and performance of older conventional systems
The Ultrastar DC HC300 series is based on a proven and cost-effective 3.5-inch model platform with air filling and Conventional Magnetic Recording (CMR). The hard drives of this type use common hardware and firmware and feature a second-generation two-stage micro actuator that enables more precise read/write head positioning and thus optimises drive performance. The increase in write performance is also supported by the Western Digital Media Cache architecture. This technology provides a large cache area on the drive, improving drive reliability and data integrity. In addition, both the SATA and SAS models with non-volatile memory (NVC) based on flash technology ensure faster writing.
