The Ultrastar DC HC520 is designed for workloads of up to 550 TB per year. It is the industry's first 12TB1 drive and utilises proven PMR (Perpendicular Magnetic Recording) technology to make it ready for any enterprise-capacity application or environment. The stable internal environment provided by fourth-generation HelioSeal® technology enables a new 8-disk design for 20% higher capacity compared to the 7-disk design of its predecessor, the Ultrastar DC HC510. This high capacity helium-filled HDD is one of the lowest power consuming drives to help your data centre meet its environmental goals and targets. The Ultrastar DC HC520 builds on the successful design of its 10TB, 8TB and 6TB predecessors and delivers an MTBF2 of 2.5 million hours, the best reliability rating of any HDD on the market. HelioSeal technology overcomes challenges of new generation data centres

Data centre features include a second-generation two-stage actuator - Western Digital's microactuator - that improves read/write head positioning accuracy.
